Early on in photography life, I really loved landscape photography. I’d see a great landscape image or a nature shot and I’d try to recreate the image or at least the mood of the image. I wasn’t very good, but it was fun and I did learn about the camera, and basic composition plus, I did get some cool pictures. Soon, I’ll post those in an upcoming blog entry. At the same time though, I’d also love to see cool fashion ads and loved the creativity and hard work that went into shooting something like that. The different types of glamour photography was incredible too, anything from the Hollywood style of glamour to Maxim, Vogue, and Playboy where just stunning to me. I just loved the lighting and colors used, the vivid images really captured my imagination. Oh, and the beautiful models didn’t dampen the love of that style of photography either. What I mean is that it really didn’t influence my route to pursuing glamour photography one bit. Psssssst, I just said that, because my wife is standing here….Thanks honey, this is the best coffee I’ve ever had……..ok, she’s gone……as I was saying, the fashion and glamour world of imagery really grabbed my attention. Take a person, create some dramatic lighting, ad a splash of color and voilà! Instant Glamour! Ok, it’s really not that simple, but those are just a few ingredients that go into a glamour shoot and I’m still very involved in learning the craft. So I guess my style is very influenced by fashion and glamour……………but how does that work into wedding photography? It doesn’t, not one bit. I just had to fill in some space and make it look like I know what I’m talking about…….no really, it does….in a huge way! Let me try to explain………………….
A wedding day is probably one of the most perfect events you can photograph. The bride looks spectacular, the groom is looking as handsome as ever and everybody else is dressed up and looking great, the hall looks luminous, the chapel is beautiful, and when is the last time you saw uncle Harry put on a suit?……right! At the last wedding! This is a perfect day for photography and I see it as a fashion and glamour smörgaborg! You’re probably thinking to yourself, “I don’t want my wedding to be a fashion shoot”, you’re right, it won’t be a fashion shoot. I’m going to guess, about 70 percent of your wedding photography will be in a photojournalistic style, 10 percent will be traditional…..we have to make the parents happy, which means getting the family together and taking those traditional group pictures, if we don’t do that, I will never hear the end of it from your mother, and 20 percent will be artistic, romantic, fun, portrait and group shots of your wedding…..the last 20 percent I just mentioned, is the part I would have to guess is most influenced by fashion and glamour. You’re going to look great, and I’m going to capture it! It’s a fusion of glamour, fashion, journalistic, and traditional……all wrapped up into one. It’s fusion and it’s me.
