I had recently added a complimentary engagement shoot to my basic package and I wanted to share my reasons for this with couples in search of a wedding photographer. When my wife and I first started Thomas Wodzisz Photography, we had our basic package pretty much the way it is now, you could have added an engagement shoot to the package if you wanted. Unfortunately, not many of the couples decided to add the engagement shoot to their wedding photography. I was a little surprised, I couldn’t understand why a couple wouldn’t want one. I guess it was financial for many, and possibly a little camera shy for some. After giving it some thought, I really wanted to give this opportunity to couples. I decided to add it as a complimentary feature to our package. I feel the shoot adds such an important aspect to your wedding photography, I couldn’t bare to work with another couple without at least offering them the shoot for free. If you hire us and don’t want the shoot, that’s fine. But let me try and explain my reasoning behind this and the benefits you get from spending a couple of hours with my wife and I on an engagement shoot.
One of the greatest benefits of the engagement shoot is me getting to know you. I love getting to know couples that are engaged. With all you’re little idiosyncrasies. Really, you’re so cute. Each couple is different and so fun to get to know. When I’m behind the lens of a camera, I look for little tell tale signs of how the couple react with one another. Let’s say I position the couple and I ask them to flirt with each other, will the guy make the first move? Maybe he’ll lean over, whisper something in her ear. What then? Will she smile, look away and blush? or will she look him in the eyes and blush? Is she the flirt? Will she go for it and kiss him on the lips? These are the kind sort things that I learn about you on an engagement shoot. Once I start working with you, I pick up on these cute little habits of yours. It’s so fun and helps me capture beautiful moments of a couple in love. The other great thing about engagement shoots is you getting to know me. I mean, who wouldn’t wanna get to know me???? I’m a great guy and you’ll love me, my wife tells me how great I am everyday, I don’t see why you wouldn’t either….. Ok, ok…..I’ll stop….my wife doesn’t tell me that everyday. Well, she does, but I don’t want to brag. Oh, I guess I just did. Seriously though, these shoots are great for couples getting used to having somebody snap pictures of them. I mean really, professional photographers work with huge cameras, there’s a lot of glass there. So, unless you’re Tyra Banks, have done some fashion modeling or walked the red carpet, it’s not everyday you’re in front of a huge camera lens with a stranger pressing the shutter button and giving you directions. With an engagement shoot under your belt, you’ll be a seasoned pro for your wedding and you’ll walk away with some of the most beautiful images imaginable. All because we took a little time and got to know one another. You’ll love me, I swear ;D
So, let’s pick a location for your engagement shoot. It could be a place you first met, maybe your favorite hangout, or some beautiful location in downtown Cleveland, let’s do a shoot on the beach…..let’s go to Maui and shoot you’re engagement session. It’s gorgeous this time of year……I guess anytime of year really, ok…..that last one, I’m just trying to get a free trip to a tropical island. Any takers???
